Ive been an early music listener and performer. The patterns of Renaissance and Baroque music are similar to what you describe. My wife and I went to a concert of 3 Bach Advent cantatas this evening. Bach was considered an old fuddy duddy but maybe his genius was combining Renaissance control with Baroque giddiness.
That sounds amazing! I love how Bach blends that Renaissance structure with Baroque’s more expressive, free-flowing vibe. It’s like he took the best of both worlds and made it his own. Bach really was ahead of his time, and it’s funny how people saw him as old-fashioned, when he was actually just a genius combining those two styles. Sounds like a fantastic concert!
