I'm so glad you enjoyed! It’s also one of my all-time favorites. When they recreated it in the musical Contact, I was absolutely thrilled….it was such a perfect homage to the painting!
Seminal piece. Your overviews are getting better and better. Or maybe it’s just the right time for them to be read and heard? Either way, we benefit from your expertise and ability to convey large swaths of history and periods in ways that are digestible. People need to know this material. We need to understand where we came from as Americans and what the push back was really about. Art helps us see it more clearly.
I have a lot of history coming out this month because I truly believe it’s crucial to share it now….before it’s too late. The world feels like it’s shifting in ways that challenge our understanding of the past, and the more we know where we came from, the better we can navigate where we’re headed. Art has always been a powerful lens for understanding history. I couldn’t agree more….people really need to engage with this material, especially in times like these.

Great article. Fragonard's The Swing is one of my all-time favorites.
