Geometry and art have a long, beautiful and very important
history. There connection has a pivotal role in the history of Western Civilization according to Samuel Edgerton, the author of many books on the subject including "The Mirror, the Window and the Telescope". This is an easy to read book for everyone.
When I was first asked to talk about fractals and The Sheep on Bluesky last year, I honestly wasn’t sure about it. Computer art wasn’t something I’d ever really covered in the classroom before. I’ve always focused on more traditional art like painting, sculpture, and architecture, teaching things like symmetry, geometry, and the "Golden Ratio." But once I started digging into it, I realized how interesting it all was. It was cool to see how those same concepts I’ve always taught apply to digital art in such a different way.
Okay, okay….you got me! Fibonacci definitely had a special place in my heart….but The Sheep? That one threw me for a loop. You know me and technology….we have an understanding….I admire it from a safe, unplugged distance. But I’ll admit, once I got past my initial “what am I looking at?” moment, I kind of fell down the fractal rabbit hole. Leonardo would be proud. Or at least politely confused.

Common! Don’t tell me the Fibonacci didn’t roll with the Rogue until now?! 🤦🏻♀️ it’s too beautiful an Italian word to pass by. Just ask Leonardo 😉

🤓 Geeks United.
Well worded LaMonica, very funny!
Great topic and information. Look no further than most seed pods---pine cone, ear of corn, fallen magnolia pod.
Great examples!
Excellent article!
Thank you so much!
