The Ajanta Caves in Maharashtra, India, comprise thirty rock-cut Buddhist sanctuaries and monastic cells hewn into a horseshoe-shaped basalt escarpment overlooking the Waghora River.
I love this. I am a cave dweller in my spirit, hiding from the sun I would be the one happy to go into the timeless depths, painting and carving my way through years. My life would be perfect and provided for because my art would be for posterity, for the ages. My soul would need nothing more.
I've wanted to go for years. I've even checked out local hotels, transport etc. I have every book I could find on the place, and weird Indian biographies of artists who went there to copy the paintings for months on end.... I don't know if you saw a couple of articles ago that I found you can wander around on Google maps?? It was incredible to see how the paintings were placed beside columns etc, I have a photo of that in my piece. It was weird too, almost took away from the fun of the idea of being there!

Aren't they amazing! You have some very good photos of the paintings, which can be hard to find...
